Hi,
We have 5 Vlans:-

10.201.82.x
10.201.83.x
10.201.84.x
10.201.85.x
10.201.86.x

on the PDC we have the following DHCP scopes for each:-

10.201.82.1 - 10.201.82.200
10.201.83.1 - 10.201.83.253
10.201.84.1 - 10.201.84.253
10.201.85.1 - 10.201.85.253
10.201.86.1 - 10.201.86.253

We have a secondary domain controller (BDC) which we'd like to

setup as DHCP server to share the load with the primary domain

controller and renew leases if one domain controller went offline.
Would it be best to use the following configuration:-

PDC
10.201.82.x
10.201.83.x
10.201.84.x
10.201.85.x
10.201.86.x
scopes
10.201.82.1 - 10.201.82.99
10.201.83.1 - 10.201.83.120
10.201.84.1 - 10.201.84.120
10.201.85.1 - 10.201.85.120
10.201.86.1 - 10.201.86.120
BDC
10.201.82.x
10.201.83.x
10.201.84.x
10.201.85.x
10.201.86.x
scopes
10.201.82.100 - 10.201.82.200
10.201.83.121 - 10.201.83.253
10.201.84.121 - 10.201.84.253
10.201.85.121 - 10.201.85.253
10.201.86.121 - 10.201.86.253

Kind Regards
Darren

Darren,
in general, your scopes on both DHCP servers should be identical - however,
you should ensure that ranges of IP addresses available for each subnet are
not overlapping by applying appropriate exclusions. For example, for the
first VLAN (10.201.82.x):

PDC
Address Pool - 10.201.82.1 - 10.201.82.200
Exclusion Range - 10.201.82.100 - 10.201.82.200

BDC
Address Pool - 10.201.82.1 - 10.201.82.200
Exclusion Range - 10.201.82.1 - 10.201.82.99

This will allow you to create the same set of reservations (assuming you are
using them) on both PDC and BDC.

Btw. note that running DHCP server on domain controllers is not recommended
for security reasons (refer to
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/l.../cc787034.aspx for details)
