I am having 2 issues with Debian getting the IP on boot.

1. When /etc/init.d/networking is run the time that it takes is long, like 2
mins. I have tried to descrease this time by editting dhcp.conf in /etc and
it worked for when I run /etc/init.d/networking manually, however, on boot,
dhcp still takes really long to find the IP.

2. What is the netenv for. I have created a new netenv called Do-nothing in
which I have the IP set to some internal 1 like 192. However, it seems to
still runs DHCP.

TIA, Jim

If you're having problems with a computer not always at the end of an
Ethernet cable (like a laptop), the answer may be ifplugd
(<http://www.stud.uni-hamburg.de/users/lennart/projects/ifplugd/>).

It starts the DHCP procedure only if there is an Ethernet connection
present - works like charm on my IBM A21p with Debian Woody.
