DHCP assigns IP dynamically

Mine is a small network running on Linux using the DHCP protocol.

What steps do I need to connect to the network with my XP Windows
portable?

How can I do the same using a cable connected to an cable from
PC-to-cable outlet available in the wireless network.

Thanks
