Hi,
I'd like to configure my notebook to be able to configure my eth0 interface
while I'm on my lan and to keep a specified IP address (the same one) when
it is not connected to the lan.

I got it configured as 192.168.1.4 (I have a dhcp server which gives its
address on the lan). But as I have some licensing progs running on my
notebook that needs an ip address set on my interface I'd like it to be
also configured while I'm not connected to my lan.

Is there a configuration setting that enables me to do that ?

How can I make it ?

I would highly recommend you look at a package call 'whereami' which you give
simple tests to perform for it to conclude what 'location' it is in and so
what settings it needs to perform. The major use is with configuring network
interfaces however there is no reason why you do not reconfigure X, printers,
etc etc.

Debian: apt-get install whereami

Rest of the world: http://debiana.net/whereami/

Regards

Alex

On my notebook, I have it configured for a static address, when at home and
then start dhcp, when elsewhere. I use a script, to save resolv.conf,
prior to starting dhcp and restoring it after it shuts down.

Works fine.
