DHCP Complete removal

Hi,
I am having an issue with DHCP not responding and hanging my server (Win2003).

I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling a number of time in a bit to fix
the problem.

However I notice that I am not being prompted for my Win2003 installation
disk during a reinstall. This makes me guess that the install application is
using files already present on the server, rather than overwriting them with
files from say my Win2003 installation disk.

Is there a method for uninstalling and completely removing all DHCP files,
thus forcing a clean reinstall?

I have a standard Win2003 server installation, all updates from Microsoft
installed.
I have run ad-aware and spybot in search of unwanted spyware etc.
I have run Mcafee VirusScan Enterprise to check for virus's.

1/un-authorize it : netsh dhcp delete server dhcpsrv1.example.microsoft.com
10.2.2.2
2/remove the folder: %SystemRoot%\System32\Dhcp\

cleanup ad about this dhcp server:
1. Click Start, point to Programs, point to Administrative Tools, and then
click Active Directory Sites and Services.
2. Click Services, and then click Net Services. If you cannot see Services,
click to select Show Services Node on the View menu.
3. In the right pane, right-click the name of the DHCP servers that you
cannot add to Active Directory, and then click Delete.
4. When the Are you sure you want to delete this object? message appears,
click Yes.
5. Force replication of Active Directory to the other sites, or wait for the
replication cycle to be completed.
6. Click Start, click Run, type Adsiedit.msc in the Open box, and then click
OK.
7. Expand Configuration, expand CN=Configuration, expand CN=Services, and
then click CN=NetServices.
8. Right-click CN=Your_DHCP_Root, and then click Properties.
9. In the Select a property to view list, click DHCPServers.
10. In the Values list, click the name of the new DHCP server, click Remove,
and then click OK.
11. Click CN=NetServices, right-click the entry for the new DHCP server, and
then click Delete.

Do I have to have Active Directory setup in order to use DHCP?

not at all, i supposed you were using AD. Just ignore the removal things i
posted about AD.
Just need to purge the folder: %SystemRoot%\System32\Dhcp\

Hi,
I uninstalled, deleted the folder, rebooted, reinstalled and....
You guessed it, still having the same problem.

I did not have to insert my installation disk, and I do not have a copy of
it on either that computers hard drive or any computer networked to it. Magic?

When I click on DHCP from say administrative tools, I get the window opening.
Inside I see xxx.feanor.me.uk [192.168.0.1] and it states 'not connected'.
If I click on xxx.feanor.me.uk [192.168.0.1] to expand it, I get a little
hour glass icon and the whole server hangs, just refuses to do anything, no
matter how long I wait.
I have to manually press the reset button to reboot.

'reinstalled' via;
control panel/add or remove programs/add/remove windows components, windows
components wizard/networking services details then clicked on DHCP.

I thought you were reinstalling the OS. There is no need to do that just for
DHCP.
It doesn't request the CD because files are already there, it's ok.

Do you deinstall, remove the folder, readded the component.

You should stop remove/reinstall and start debugging.
Activate audit logs, and checks dhcp logs:
C:\WINDOWS\System32\Dhcp\*.log

Hi,
As you say, I uninstalled and reinstalled DHCP only, not the entire OS.
Yes I deinstall, remove the folder, readded the component.

I tried stopping both dhcp client service and dhcp server service, then
deinstall dhcp, followed by removing folder, rebooting and readding the
component.
Still got the same 'not connected' message and hanging pc.

As for the audit logs, since they appear I guess they are turned on.
Here is DhcpSrvLog-Tue.log;
....
ID,Date,Time,Description,IP Address,Host Name,MAC Address
00,08/28/07,14:37:37,Started,,,,
55,08/28/07,14:37:43,Authorized(servicing),,,,

So according to the log dhcp is running ok and is authorized.
Strange considering I cannot interface with it!

Where do you get the "not connected" ? on the workstation ?

On the workstation, check that the dhcp client service is up.
Try to make a "repair" on the network card (right click on it)
