Long and short refer to the preamble which
the unit sends to the AP when trying to connect.
It contains information which is needed. Default
is usually "long" which slows down data transmission
somewhat, but is more reliable under some conditions.
The defragmentation threshold can be set lower under
difficult conditions which may help some. It isn't
easy to solve these problems and as you say Tech
Support may not be any more advanced than the
rest of us. Cisco cards have the long/short options
and some others. You may see an option called
Ad Hoc power which if checked may help. Note:
I did not say select Ad Hoc vs Infrastructure
setup. But, if you have the Ad Hoc POWER
option selecting may provide an edge. Regards and
