Hi guys

We have problems on our LAN/WAN with very slow login times. Others have
told me this is down to our DNS, but nothing seems wrong with it.
I have just been told in a meeting by a technical consultant that we should
change our DCHP type from 'Default' to 'Hybrid' as this will stop unnecessary
broadcasts.
Is this correct? And where do I find the options to do this?
We are running: all W2k SP4 wrkstations, 1xWin2kDC, 1xWin2003DC,
1xWin2003MembServer running Exchange

Thanks for any info!

Don't know whether it will solve the problem. But you can force H node by
configuring scope options on your DHCP server - use option #46, value for H
node = 0x8.

I agree with Doug. That will do it, but I can't see the connection between
that and your login problem. If the clients are W2k and you are running AD,
login will not be using Netbios names. Clients will be finding the logon
server using DNS. Are all clients set to use the local DNS server only (ie
the one with the SRV records for AD)?

Are you running WINS? If not, changing the node type won't have any
positive effect. Machines will still default to using broadcasts after
trying to find a WINS server and failing. All the hybrid node setting does
is tell the machine to try the WINS server first.
