DHCP causing duplicate IP in DNS

We have a restriction on the number of addresses in the
scope for our DHCP service so we have set the length of
time for an issued IP to 4 days. The same DHCP server is
used for PC builds as well as "live" PCs.
We have a problem: When a PC that has been offline for
more than 4 days its IP is reissued to another PC.
This means that if you ping the original PC using its DNS
or netbios (via wins) name then you get a response even
though the PC is still offline. The response is coming
back from the new PC.

Is there any way of automating the process so that when
the DHCP server reissues an IP for a new PC the old PC's
DNS record is deleted?

Regards, Major.

You can enable the automatic scavenging of stale records.
Have a look at

897.html

for an explination.
