Hello Ms Windows Server forum readers,

Could you pls advise if DHCP 80/20 rule provides fault tolerance -further
to DHCP usage
load balancing- in case one DHCP server goes down, without manual (user)
intervention?

Fyi, URL reference for DHCP 80/20 rule:
http://www.microsoft.com/resources/d...b_dhc_ogjw.asp

Any advise will be much appreciated

Regards, Nick Dakoronias

I always use 50/50.

If 50% is enough address to run the system, then no intervention is
required. If 50% is not enough then it requires intervention in that you
have to manually remove the Exclusion on the remaining Server so that it now
uses 100%. When the "broken" server is repaired,...manually put the
Exclusion back again.

Microsoft used to suggest the 80/20 split. This always seemed kind of
arbitrary and was never really explained. The newer KB articles speak in
terms of 50/50 per Phillip's response. See:
