dhclient question

I run slackware 9.1 on a dell inspiron 5100 with a dell truemobile 1400
wireless card built in. This card isn't supported by linux as of right
now, but I can hypothetically load the windows drivers using ndiswrapper.

However, I'm having a lot of trouble configuring the card past that
point. I have to use iwconfig to assign the wep key. After that, I can
assign an ip address with ifconfig, but I still can't connect. If I try
to use dhclient to dynamically assign an ip address I just get the
response: eth1: not found. If, however, I assign an ip address with
ifconfig and then do dhclient, dhclient tries to do something but
ultimately finds no valid responses and sleeps.

Really, it would be best if the ip address were assigned dynamically.

Does one use dhclient to assign an ip dynamically? If so, what's up with
it being all, "not found"?

I don't see it listed in the supported card list of the ndiswrapper
project page.

yes, dhclient assigns ip address dynamically. the not found messages
suggest that the ndiswrapper module failed to register an ethernet
interface. If you run ifconfig -a does eth0 show up? If not, it
probably suggests that ndiswrapper is not working properly with your card.

Yes, eth0 is used by the built in ethernet card that came with the laptop.

Sorry, meant to say iwconfig. Does it show any extensions to the eth0
interface?

No, it says something like, "no wireless interface found" for eth0

Then it sounds like ndiswrapper isn't working properly with your
wireless driver
