Hi. I've been having hardware issues with my wireless card for a little
bit. I've posted several times to this newsgroup and people have been
very helpful. However, things are still not quite right.
I have slackware 9.1 installed. Because my wireless card (dell
truemobile 1400 -- 14e4 4324) is not supported by linux due to a lot of
broadcom stupidity (or at least that's my personal uneducated opinion),
I have to use ndiswrapper with the windows drivers for that card. I've
compiled the 2.4.24 kernel for that and have recompiled the wireless
tools for that as well due to some wireless extension problems discussed
in a previous post that have been corrected due to help from you fine
people.
After I load the ndiswrapper stuff without any issues I use iwconfig to
put in the meaningful information for my card -- the wep number, the
channel, etc. Then I call iwlist, then I say "ifconfig wlan0 up", and
finally dhclient. However, when I use dhclient it merely says, "wlan0
not found". When I just say dhclient without anything after dhclient
tells me that no broadcast interfaces were found. iwconfig, ifconfig,
and iwlist all seem to find wlan0 fine.
I don't seem to get any error messages. When I call iwconfig after
dhclient fails I can see that the computer is recieving information from
the router -- for instance, essid is right even though I don't manually
configure that. Can anyone help me figure out what's wrong? I've finally
hit a dead end and am not sure what else I can do to fix the problem.
I've seen other people on the internet who have my card and seem to have
gotten it working, so I'm fairly confident it can work. It just doesn't
in my case.
