Hi
Upgraded to the new firmware ok. No problems and connection is very
stable, but I've found a minor problem others may be interested in
knowing about.
On browsing around I found the new security options offered by Trend
Microsystems and thought it would be worth trialling the 60 day offer.
Not greatly impressed so far. Firstly unable to download the file needed
on registration, although I tried on 3 different PCs. The security scan
also failed to pick up the fact that all 3 machines already have
antivirus protection installed.
Despite this, I decided to leave it running and give it a go.
Later tried to download a file using Newsleecher. I found I couldn't
connect some of my external news servers - Giganews, Usenet Monster and
Newshosting, which were all stuck at the authentication stage. Zen,
Easynews and Usenet Server were ok. As soon as I disabled the Trend
security in the router it was all back to normal.
I've decided to dispense with Trend. In theory it seems like a good idea
but I can't be bothered to try to find out what settings I need to get
everything to run as I want it. The router itself acts as a very good
firewall and for my needs does what it should. YMMV.
BTW, before I get flamed for being greedy about so many external
newsservers, I'm currently evaluating them to decide which one(s) are
worth keeping.
Regards
Deddajay
