I'm thinking of getting one of these on eBay but many are Sky-logoed
(i.e. came with Sky broadband). I'm not with Sky. Is there ANY
difference when the DG834GT and the Sky verson? If there is, is it
important or can I happily use one of these?

As I understand it, the Sky version of the DG834GT uses a special 'Sky'
firmware just for use with Sky Broadband. There is a way to change the
firmware back to a standard DG834GT, but without this being done, the unit
will only work with Sky Broadband. It could be that the units you have seen
for sale on Ebay have already been flashed with standad Netgear firmware, so
that they are fully compatible with other services.

Yes, they are different. The Sky one comes with firmware which does not
allow configuration of the DSL login. Unless you really know what you're
doing use a retail version just for non-Sky and a Sky one just for Sky.

You simply flash it with the latest firmware from the Netgear site using the
recovery utility. That allows it to be used as a non branded router on any
ISP.
You can also use SKY with any router of your choice. You need to search the
Digital Spy forum for full details on what to press to show your user name
and password. That can be entered in any router.

just to back up what andy said, i have an ebay (£8) sky router, flashed it
with recovery util on netgear site, reset, log in (192.168.0.1 admin
password) and all good, using mine with vivacity. takes 5 minutes, can't go
wrong! just google the router + sky for more info

The firmware has bits of it disabled so you can't edit the settings,
e.g. username and password.
