DG834GT & DNS Issues

Hi,

I can't find a solution for this anywhere!

I have a Netgear DG834GT Router. I can connect to my router and I can
also ping my router. When I put a web address in the Diagnostics page
and get the IP of the address, I can go to the address using that IP in
a web browser.

However, if I just type http://www.google.com - it doesn't work!

I am with Pipex in the UK.

ADSL PORT
IP Subnet Mask : 255.255.255.255

LAN PORT
IP Address : 192.168.0.1
DHCP : On
IP Subnet Mask : 255.255.255.0

Please can anyone help!

not without more info

what is DNS setting and Home Gateway setting on the PC ? look at
Status/Support/Details by right mousing netowrk connectio, or
'ipconfig /all' from a command prompt - 'cmd' in Run box of Start.

Is your ADSL set-up using DHCP to Pipex or did you try to configure your own
DNS servers on the router set-up? Sounds like you have misconfigured and
the router has failed to find a DNS server.

FYI, I have lots of intermittent DNS issues until I updated my router to the
latest beta firmware from the Netgear site. The DNS always worked initially
but after some days it would stop intermittently. I'd recommend fixing your
config first, saving off the config and then upgrading.

We have two Netgear routers here. When DHCP is turned on, the clients get
a DNS address which is the router. This works fine on one of the routers
through Nildram but doesn't work on the other through Demon. When using
the Demon router as the gateway I have to manually assign DNS addresses
given to me from Demon.

Its a DNS issue so either the router isn't getting the right one from
the ISP or your network card isn't. Set the ISP one in the network card
properties.

Do you really need IPv6 to be enabled? You might try disabling this if not
and see if that helps.
