Hi

I have a DG824M and I find with the std little black rubber antenna the
range is not that good, i.e a few rooms and the signal drops off. I have
read some of the FAQs and still dont understand!

OR do I need a bridge or repeater? if so which one will work here?

I have looked on the netgear site and see the Antenna ANT2405, my questions
are:

Will this increase the range of the router?

and the thing I cant get my head around is "wont I need to boast the signal
output from my laptop" as I'm assuming that I will now be able to receive,
but wont the router still pick up my weak laptop signal,

Thanks

Mike (confused)

It was my understanding that you wouldn't need to do anything at the
laptop end.

This site might give you some tips:

<http://www.wlan.org.uk>

And this site has some excellent docs on wireless:

<http://www.solwise.co.uk>

And you could also try searching on Googlge for info in alt.wireless

I have the same Netgear and the same problem, if not worse. Sometimes, just
putting my laptop 8 metres away and the signal gets low (I think there are
sometimes also interferences).

Strangely, I can get my signal easily 3 floors below and even in the street
(3.5 floors below) in front on my window. The signal seems to travel more
easily vertically than horizontally.

That'd be because the antenna in a PCMCIA card is directional. Stand
the laptop so the card is upright and watch the signal improve.

Thanks for the tip. I shall try doing this next time I have signal
problems. Today it is excellent from anywhere so I can't test.
