DG814, NAT, DCHP & File-sharing

I have a connection to BT ADSL, and was originally supplied with a
frog, and that was connected to a PC I had Windows 2000 server
running.

Figuring the need for an upgrade, I decided to go for the NetGear
DG814 and it setup up very easily using it for both the DCHP, and NAT.
Things were looking great, till I tried my file sharing programs, and
then the Router seem to crash.

Not quite sure what the problem was, but maybe considered it might be
the excessive connection made by the file-sharing program, and so
blowing the NAT table on the router.

So, my thoughts are as I have a spare network card, to connect the
router to the Windows 2000 Server, and then let the Server handle the
DCHP and NAT. Its a bit of a tricky job, can see it taking an while to
get everything running smoothly again, so I was hoping for some views.
i.e. is it worth my time going this direction just to get the file
-sharing working again?

As a bit of a novice in this area, I would appreciate your comments
and suggestions

Thanks

Ken J

At the moment thats the leading contender however i can sometimes crash it
within hours of power up, sometimes a few days and its unlikely to fill in a
few hours.

Thats exactly what i did, my linux box handling NAT and DHCP functions - the
router is just being used as a 100mbit network switch and modem.
Unfortunately, it STILL crashes. It may just be UDP traffic kills it
somehow. Oh, the network switch stops talking to anything if you run Retina
or NMAP locally on your network too.

Is there another router/modem that WILL perform OK in this area?

I seem to recall someone mentioning a Thomson device, can anyone
support this, and are there any other alternatives that are KNOWN to
work?

Any info gratefully received by me and, I'm sure, others.

I had a DG814 which suffered these problems, switched to a Thomson
SpeedTouch 510v4 which works a treat.
