My friend has just got this router with in built dsl modem.

When he plugs the phone line in the WAN light doesnt turn green..

Can anyone verify that this light is meant to turn green when a dsl capable
phone line is plugged into it?

he just bought it around my house, plugged the phone line in it, blinked
orange a couple of times then went green..

this is only happening on his phone line every now and then - does that mean
his phone line is knackered?

he's been using a pci modem and has been able to use the net well (apart
from the odd disconnect).

Should he call out BT to check the line? his isp is nildram..

To amend that slightly, just plugging in an ADSL-capable phone line
doesn't make the light turn green, it turns green when it connects to
something on the other end of that line. This requires that (1) BT have
enabled the line, (2) some ISP is providing service on that line, and
(3) the correct user name and password have been entered into the
router.

Use the web interface to check the status -- it will give some
information about why it's not making a connection.

it's definately his phone line then - he's gonna have to get an engineer
