DFS - files replicated between offices?

Hello,

I've never done any file replication of specific folders between servers.
We have a file server (windows 2003) on the same domain as the file server
in our LA office. How do I specify that I'd like specific folders to
replicate so they don't have to copy the files directly to our NY or our LA
office since it takes a long time for the file transfer from the desktop.

I don't think there is a short answer for this. DFS can be a little tricky
to configure properly. MS has several white papers on this topic. If you are
not familiar with DFS I would suggest you read these over and get a good
understanding of it before implementing in production. You should set it up
in a lab first and play with it. If you don't have time for that, then you
might even consider bringing in a local consultant to help you with it.

There are several things you will want to consider such as the bandwidth
between sites, the size of the folder to replicate (size of data), typical
size of files that will be repliacted, replication schedule and whether you
should use W2003 Standard or Enterprise Edition. DFS replication can be a
pain if it is not configured properly.

I use it at my company and all in all it works fairly well, however we have
had some issues. I understand that the Windows 2003 R2 version of DFS is
supposed to be much better.
