Hi.
This kind of device probably has a configuration menu.
Its IP address might have been already configured on a different
network than your own.
example : your network might be on 192.168.0.x
and device might be configured on network 10.x.y.z.
On DHCP : DHCP does not have special option to ignore IP addresses.
There are special IP address though : The Ethernet Broadcast is one.
You can "register a certain MAC and give it a certain IP." But this
behavior is optional. Check that not all IP addresses in your range
are not already given...
On the Network devices : Verify the kind of device your HP device is
plugged in : Is is a hub or a switch or a router ?
Old hubs might not support a 100Mbps and your HP device require it.
Switches can be configured with some port in different VLANs.
Routers obviously need to be configured properly.
- Also check on full duplex vs half duplex vs "Auto" ports both on
the net box and the HP device interface. Get rid of "Autos"
- Test the patch cord you intend to use for your HP device onto a
different plug and another hosts to be sure it's good...
- I could suggest you use your laptop to test the physical socket used
to connect the HP device.
- Also make sure you dont use "reverse" or "uplink" ports in your network
box.
- Check on the DHCP server console about connexions of the HP device.
Warning : DO NOT change MAC addresses. you're about to enter on
a world of pain!!!
If you end up with 2 devices on your network with the same MAC,
it's hello problem...
Instead, do connect your HP device and register all IP options :
IP address
SubNet Mask
Default Gateway.
DNS #1
DNS #2 (optional)
WINS (optional)
Then try to reset the networking options. Turn off and back on again.
Or even try to configure each option manually.
Hope it help.
