Using NetGear DG834GT,

Listed & NAMED all devices in LAN device list, all devices show in
list with mac codes & names.

When I check modem for connected devices I have 2 devices that
constantly list named as UNKNOWN. always same two devices, one is a PC
other a 360.

Doesn't seem to be effecting connections but it would be nice to know
why this happens & if there is a cure, have tried alternative
names..same result ???

Ive got a D-Link Print Server and both of its IP addresses come up as
UNKNOWN on my 834G also. (that is despite me naming it 'print server' in its
setup screens)

I had that problem and, IIRC, it was related to case sensitivity in the
name matching.

Spaces may be a problem - also, a number of devices (and printer
servers/network printers figure greatly) add characters to the name* or
do not supply a name when requesting a DHCP address.

* think I saw this in man pages for Linux dhcpd - I certainly had
problems getting some devices to get an address in a way that allowed a
DNS entry to be added.
