Desktop and Laptop see each other fine but laptop can't access DSL

The 2 machines can see each other fine, but for one
reason or another the laptop can't access the web. Also,
I've noticed that the laptop seems to get disconnected
every 5 minutes or so from the network and I have to go
back in and issue the reconnect command and this can
happen while I'm browsing my desktop. Any ideas what
could be causing these issues?

Desktop is running Win XP Home and is connected via
ethernet to the wireless router. Web access is fine and
dandy as it's always been.

Laptop is running Win XP Pro (5.1 Build 2600) and is
connected via a wireless internal Broadcom 54g
MaxPerformance 802.11g card.

Wireless router is MN-700

One final comment/question. I also have a Playstation 2
and an old win 98 machine's ethernet cables plugged into
the wireless router. They've not been turned on since
installation simply due to lack of time. I believe I
read somewhere that if I'm using the Wireless Router as a
WAP that it can't be used as a router. Although the
other two cables arn't feeding data into it, could they
be causing my difficulties?

After reading over the boards I went ahead and disabled
the 802.1x authentication and the laptop stays connected
now. But I still can't access the web from the lap top
which is the whole reason I would like to go wireless in
the first place. Any suggestions?

If the laptop is a built-in wireless card, then you probably need to check
in Network Connections and make sure that networking device is not bridged
with another device (built-in NIC, for instance). That would block your
connection. Also, make sure you've got the proper IP address on the laptop.
If you were previously failing on the connection, the machine may have given
itself an IP outside the range of the MN-700's LAN IPs (default is
192.168.2.2-40). You can go to the Command Prompt (NOT Start/Run) and type
in "ipconfig" without the quotes. If it give you an error or IP not within
the normal range, you can follow that with "ipconfig /release" (without
quotes) and then "ipconfig /renew" (no quotes again).

I followed the steps you recommended and discovered the
ip address was out of the range. It was 192.168.2.47, I
made it 192.168.2.12 and still can't seem to get on the
web. I can ping just fine.

Problem discovered! First of all I had 2 DNS server
addresses that I was telling it to use. I removed those
from the list and that seemed to of fixed it. Thanks to
all those that helped, it was greatly appreciated.
