Desktop accesses laptop and reads folders but Laptop only accesses/opens Desktop but cannot read folders, access is denied

I have been hassling this problems for days, since replacing desktop with
new PC with all other equipment unchanged.

Both the Desktop and laptop access the internet OK via a netgear WGU624
wireless router and cable modem. From the Desktop I can access the laptop
and read the shared files. From the laptop I can access the Desktop and see
the shares but I cannot open them, access is denied.

All the firewall settings seem to be correct (ZoneAlarm in both locations)
and the NVIDIA network card is open to the wireless network.

I tried reinstalling the whole network but ended up with exactly the same
problem which I would love to solve, even though it is not critical since
the desktop is the master of the network.

If any one could help but needs more detail please say and I will provide
it.

Hmm, It might help if you posted what you have open in the firewall, and
why. What OS is the desktop running? For the folder you are trying to
access, have you assign permissions to the same user name and password as
the user logged into the laptop?

Hello, I have virtually the same setup and basically the same problem w/ my
network....and here's what I've come up with regarding it all:

This (your post) is without question, the most common post on any board
regarding wireless home networking...
I had completely given up as I realized I was actually getting older
attempting to figure this one out...I did everything by the book...then
everything by the help files and tutorials...then anything I could find that
I had not tried yet....

My nephew is an award winning programmer w/ a great deal of experience in
networking and many ,many facets of computer work...He spent nearly two hours
and finally came to the conclusion that: 'If I was running XP PRO versus XP
HOME, that it would be a piece of cake...a walk in the park...etc...& that
anyone & everyone w/ even a small amounty of computer experience could
easily wirelessly network their systems w/o incident'...

As stated, I have read thousands of entries in my attempts to FIX my 'one
-way printer/file sharing network'...As a non-expert, I am now certain that
the issue doesnt lie within any one area like 'permissions, print spoolers or
any of the error messages, etc...but it's the limitations that XP HOME has -
in its ability to communicate with two+ machines on a wireless network that's
the issue for most of us...In a Nutshell:
The Workstation (which has the modem, router, printer installed) can see and
access the wireless notebook, but the notebook cannot save to, print to or
open any files from the workstation/desktop...NO matter what you do or
try...it simply will not work...However...there are many, many people that
have setup identical networks, some w/ multiple computers and even multiple
OS's and it works...the 1st time and always, w/o incident,...but these arent
the folks here on the message boards desperately looking for help either...I
believe the answer is an upgrade to XP PRO...short and sweet, complete
solution...upgrade, run the damn wizard or do it manually...and share files,
printers etc...This has been the advice from several experts that know the
program's limitations & shortcommings...

I recently bought a new Dell notebook for the sole purpose of running a
wireless network and being able to write comfortably & save, print etc to the
desktop's large hard drive & printer...I made it 'perfectly-crystal-clear to
the salesperson at Dell of my needs and expectations...I was assured that I
only needed HOME & definitely 'DID NOT' need PRO...and I'm frustrated, doing
a workaround everytime I want to access the notebook's files...AND I'm
getting older...I may switch over to an Apple environment at the first of the
year and have an Ebay yardsale...complete w/ all the windows-only programs
left on my machines...'for educational purposes only'...of course...

In the meantime, if you do learn anything that works for you...I would be
very appreciative if you could pass it along to me...Thanks and kindest
