Hi everyone and happy new year!

We have an old w2k DC, which is going to be replaced by a new w2k3 server.
Once I have migrated everything across to the new w2k3 DC what do I need to
do to re-use the old DC as a print server? Is it possible to use the old DC
as a secondary DC + a print server if so, do I have to use dcpromo or would
it be better to rebuild it?

Thanks in advance,

Lyj

I would demote the windows 2000 DC and then promote it as windows 2003 DC + printer server.

Hi,

You have few options. First one is to leave the old domain controller as it
is (as second domain controller) and also use it as print server. This would
be very vise if you currently only have one domain controller running in
your environment.
Second option is to demote current server to member server (in this case it
will not be a domain controller any more), but you can still use it as e.g.
print server.

The option that I would go with if possible is to set up new server on
Windows 2003 and transfer all the roles to new one. Now I would go and also
do a clean installation of Windows 2003 Server on the old hardware (if it
will take Windows 2003). After the installation I would promote it to domain
controller (second domain controller in your environment) and you can still
use it as e.g. print server.

I hope this helps,
