Dell Wireless Network Card

I just purchased a Dell Insipiron 5100 about a week ago, and it's still
being worked on at the Dell factory (shipping date is august 4th). I'm
thinking about calling them up and having them install a Dell TrueMobileT
1300 WLAN (802.11b/g, 54Mbps) miniPCI Card. For an extra 50 dollars, I
figure it's a better deal than getting an external PCMCIA and not have to
deal with removing it everytime I pack up.

But are the miniPCI wireless as good as the PCMCIA? I've heard the signal
quality isn't as good on a miniPCI. Should I just cough up the extra cash
and get an external PCMCIA WI-FI? Is the Dell internal WI-FI any good. Or
have people had any problems with it?

thanks

I've used both internal and external cards (not on the same computer),
and I find the internal has better signal strength. When I would use
my computer with the external card in bed, I'd find that if I arranged
the blankets badly, it would interfere with my signal. With the
internal card, there's no blockage of the antenna (which I think is
built into the screen?). However, other people's milage may vary.

I do find that there's an odd area in my house (at the kitchen table)
where my signal strength goes from weak to non-existent based on
"where" on the table I place my notebook. I think this has to do more
with the construction of my house than my card.
