I have searched everywhere and tried everything and am convinced that until
Dell releases driver/firmware updates to the Truemobile 2300 router and or
TM WLAN pcmcia 1300 card it wont be possible to use WPA encryption. So
instead I have WEP enabled as well as a renamed SSID, new router password
and I have selected to not broadcast.

Up till now the desktop was wired and the Inspiron 1100 was wireless. It
will be necessary for me to make the Dimension 4600 wireless as well.
Because of this I need a wireless g PCI adapter for the desktop. Although I
know it is good to stay with the same manufacturer for wireless equipment I
am a bit nervous choosing another TM product. I cant afford to start from
scratch with the two other TM pieces (2300 and 1300). Any good experiences
mixing Dell stuff with something else?

Yes, I have mixed my Dell TrueMobile 1300 WLAN Mini Pci card with a Linksys
WRT54G router. With that combination I can utilize WPA security. I have since
added a Linksys WAP54G Access Point. I am using the WAP as a repeater to the
WRT. However in the repeater mode, the WAP can not use WPA, only WEP. I am
sure that Linksys will fax that in its next firmware release for the WAP.

I am very happy with my system and it is quite stable and fast.

I had an odd experience with my Dell D400 with TrueMobile 1300 PCI
card and WRT54g router. One day it stopped connecting completely; then
I started checking software settings, and I found that somehow the
TrueMobile Radio was disabled in the Utility! I simply had to press
FN+F2 and everything connected fine again.

Sincerely,
Paul Rubin
