I just picked up a used Dell C610 laptop.
I pulled my existing Orinoco 802.11b card
from my Toshiba and put it into the Dell... and it runs fine.

Any comments on buying & using
a mini-pci 802.11 wireless card -
Dell 1150 mini-pci 802.11b
Dell 1300 mini-pci 802.11b/g

Also - the range with the Orinoco PCMCIA is really good,
and just wondering how "bad" the mini-pci card is
using the "internal antenna" wherever it is located
on the Dell C610 -
Phil -

C610 has two internal antennae (same as my Inspiron 4150) so miniPCI range
should be as good or (in my experience) better than PC Card/PCMCIA.

ok - one more question...
will the mini-pci 1300 802.11b/g card work in the C610 ?
In the Dell specs for the 1300, they only mention the D-series
tnx -Phil

Yes, it will work; the antennae are made for 2.4Ghz band (same band as
802.11g). I'm running the 1300 in an "unsupported" configuration, in an
Inspiron 4150, just fine.

One point about the Orinoco Gold PC Card is that it can support an
external antenna. Mine gives better performance with a clip on antenna than
the internal Dell PCI card. That said, I get good enough range where I want
to use it to not want to bother with an external antenna and the attendant
cable.

Well - I have the C610 laptop,
and just purchased the Dell 1300 mini-pci wireless 802.11b/g card,
so I guess we will see what happens when it arrives -

Why would it NOT be supported on the C610 ??
physical dimensions - heat - power - capability to switch modes -

I hope the 1300 card fits & works -
vs having to sell it and get a Dell 1150 mini-pci wireless 802.11b
card -

tnx - Phil -

It will fit. Mini PCI is a standard size.

over on the Dell forums,
it was mentioned that the 1300 really gets hot -
so - maybe it's a heat dissapation issue -
It would be interesting to learn
how hot the 1150 mini-pci wireless card gets
vs the 1130 mini-pci wirelss card

I'm using a Dell Inspiron 5100 with a 1300 card as I write this message. I can
report no problem with heat using this combination.
