Delays in Telnet to Linux Box

I have a Linux box sitting on our internal network ...

Suppose the IP of the box is 10.10.0.100

When I try to telnet to that box from a computer on that same 10.10.0.*
network, then there is a 30 second delay before I am prompted to enter my
user name.

However, when I on a different network, i.e. 11.11.0.* then I am prompted
immediately.

Where should I begin to investigate ?

Any help / suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

I've seen the same thing for all access (www, smtp, etc).

I'd love to know how to speed it up.

It sound like a problem in reversing the IP of the client, maybe
you should check if the server is trying to do so and configure it
accordly.

he's write.. i first saw that problem on a bsd box i used to run.. if you
are doing reverse dns lookup on ips, it will slow everything down..
especially if no or non valid dns servers are listed in resolv.conf

A 30 second delay sound to me like a DNS lookup timeout.
After the first DNS server times out, the lookup fails over to the 2nd DNS
server which succeeds.
