Hallo @ll,

sometimes when i doubleclick on a mapped network drive a 10 second delay
will appear.

The Client is a Windows XP with SP2, the Servers are Windows NT and Windows
Server 2003. Both of these shared folders of these NOS platforms show the
same effect.

I made a network capture with etherreal a i found out that first time the
client attempts a connecting the share he will recieve the following SMB
error messages:

STATUS_NO_SUCH_DEVICE
STATUS_INVALID_DEVICE_REQUEST

After that a "Close Request" and a "Close Respond" follows.

10-12 seconds later, the client tries to connect again and the path will
appear as normally.

After this procedure the problem will arrise if the connection isn't use
permanently.

I have tested to turn of the Symantec AntiVirus Auto-Protect. I have alsow
followed the instructions at the KB article 829700.

Can anyone help me?

Hey Sascha,

Those errors are NT related usually refering to I/O of thr hard disk.
Usually this means the drive went unavailable. Why would it go unavailable?
Well, typically it's do to a bad hard drive, bad blocks/sectors, bad disk
array, or bad controller card. I wish I could give you better news. You
might want to try doing some maintenance / repair work... and maybe make
sure your caught up in your backups (just in case).

Hope this helps,

Hi,

the error messages that i have mentioned are from the SMB protocoll frames!

I have tested to access the network drive with a Windows 2000 Computer and
it works normaly. It seems to be a bug in Windows XP.
