Delay accessing mapped drives

I have setup a WIN2K3 file server on my network. I have
written scritps to map drives to shares on this server.
We are experiencing 20-30 second delay's in accessing
these drives. Is there something I can do to access these
mappings quicker ?

Do you have all NICs locked down at a specific speed/duplex setting (i.e.,
not using autosense)?
Are you running antivirus software on the server? If so, set it to
"incoming" only for the real-time scanning.
