I have heard that 11b/g conflicts with cordless phones. I have a British
Telecom Synergy 2120 DECT cordless phone. Does anyone know if the phone
will cause problems if I set up a b/g network at home.
TIA

It shouldn't, it's a different frequency range.

I've had several varieties of DECT phones here - and run an 802.11b
network over the whole house without problems.

If you get problems, most phones allow you to fiddle with the channel
numbers to get a sweet spot.

YMMV of course - but they play ok together here...

Hi,

Dect uses 1800-1900 MHz region so should be immune to any 2.4ghz activity.

the only potential issue is if you place the dect base right next to the AP
aerial . some cheaper receivers may not have sufficient rejection of out of
band signals and the resultant blocking may cause your dect to break up.

cheers

Bill

I have two 2.4Ghz cordless phones. One, a General Electric, interferes
with everything if it is nearby either my router or a wireless -b card.
Another, VTec, interferes with nothing. The GE also picks up microwave
oven interference, while the VTec does not. Also, IMO, the GE is a
piece of trash, which is why I got the VTec. So, there are phones that
will interfere, but even the GE does not interfere unless it is very
close to -g equipment. The microwave interferes only with the GE phone,
never with the -g signal.

The worst case of interference I have is interaction between the wired
portion of the router if it is closer than about 18 inches (45cm) to the
RCA cable modem.

That's not the DECT frequency range though.

Thank you all for your answers. The consensus seems to be: it should be
fine. Just don't put the base station and the access point too close
together.
