I have a problem regarding Debian 3.0rc1 and netgears FA511 PCMCIA
net-card on an old IBM Thinkpad 760ED. The card works, but slow on my
local network.

The installation went flawlessly and I am able to access the internet with
no problems at the max speed. However when I try to dowload from lokal ftp
i get a vary low connection (4,5 kb/s).

The issue is apparently not the ftp server as another computer on the net
can use full brandwith in local ftp-downloads.

Also I seem to be able to make parallel ftp downloads in different tty's
throug the NETGEAR card at that same speed (4,5 kb/s).

Any suggestions as how to increase the download rate?

Regards

Jacob
