DD-WRT? tomato? specs?

I'm looking for specifications for alternative firmware
for my Linksys WRT54GS.

For example, I need more than 10 entries in the port forwarding table.
Closest thing to a spec I can find for the firmware is
"advanced port forwarding features".

I also need to port forward to a machine name on my windows network.
Fixed IP addresses won't work for me.

Is this stuff documented anywhere?
Thanks, mike

The various websites should have some of that info, such as
dd-wrt at www.dd-wrt.com
tomato at http://www.polarcloud.com/firmware

dd-wrt has a simple 'Add' button that seems to allow a person to add
as many rules as he/she needs. As a quick test, I just added 12 rules
and it didn't complain. Not sure what Tomato has in that area since
it's been awhile since I used it.

I don't know, the Port Forwarding fields seem hard-coded to accept an
IP address, not a hostname. Why can't you use a static IP on that
system?

Hi,
Just download and try and if it does not meet your need,
revert back to old f/w.

The whole purpose of a newsgroup is to get answers to questions.
Advice to try every possible firmware is not helpful.

Hmmm,
I am a long time user of dd-wrt. Ite met my needs and more.
They will customize one for you if free ones don't meet your needs.
You can even get a whole open source code if you wish.

I don't want to argue about it.
My system requirements include forwarding more than 10 ports to
hostnames.

I recently ran a considerable number of wireless cctv cams on the
dd-wrt54 firmware so I expect with some work it should perform for you

Guess I should tell my Westell router that it should quit port forwarding to
my machines by hostname.
DHCP is wonderful if you just let it do it's thing.
If you have to reconfigure your laptop(s) every time you change to a
different
subnet, it's a real PITA.

That's why you should make the configuration change in your router.
That way no changes are necessary on the laptop and you can move it to
as many other networks as you like. Whenever you bring it back home,
however, it will always get the same IP that it had there before.
