DC on Server Core MIA ...

I've installed Server Core on a DC and that server for whatever reason just
does not show up in our list of computers/servers on the domain.

Yet, I can remote to it, AD works perfectly fine, there's no errors in the
event logs.

What gives? How do I correct this? It shows up in DNS/WINS ...

Hi Ace,

Thank you for the suggestion. This is our 7th Server Core DC and we follow
the same steps in creating a DC here and this is the very first one that has
done this behavior following the same process we've used since June. All of
the others appear in Network Neighborhood like they should.

Any suggestions?

Mike

If you are saying they are absolutely identical and they all work, then I'm
sorry, I do not have any other suggestions. Did you use a install script or
were each one done individually and manually configured? I would say if
manually configured, there may have been a fat-fingered entry. If script
based, then something may have got corrupted during the install.

We have a documented process we go through, part of it is scripted, part of
it is manual. No, nothing was 'fat fingered' -- i checked everything myself
after the individual finished.

Hmm, quite unfortunate. I would suggest, and I know you may not like this,
to reinstall it. Sorry...

Sorry it's the only DC in that plant - not an option.

The only option I have is to fix this issue.

Hmm. And it shows up in WINS... is the Browser service enabled on the
machine?

That is correct, it does show up in WINS and the Browser service is running.

Are there any errors in the Event logs on this machine? Is it trying to
force itself to be the master browser? Is the subnet mask correct? Is it
dual homed?
