data download monitoring software - recommendations

Sorry to post again but I can't find one of the original postings with
this information.

My mate is being hassled by Virgin for large amount of downloading.

What's the best/most reliable 'FREE' software to use as monitor.

Some people suggest Ethereal (or Wireshark as it is now known) but their
page makes it sound terribley complicated.

Any advice please?

Thanks Colin and SJP

I was really looking for something to track amounts of data uploaded and
downloaded so as to keep an eye on how my mate was doing before hitting
his ISP's cap/throttling etc.
He is with Virgin who don't admit what their limits are until you have
reached them!
At least with my ISP (Plusnet) for all everyone's complaints, they do
have a pretty accurate log of one's useage available online.

Netmeter does this

They are unlimited ignore them as they are in error.

Virgin have unlimited downloads so they are in error if they say he is using
too much.
He may fall foul of uploading too much but its easy to limit that.
