Data Center Relocation

Hi,

We are planning to move our servers to a new Data Center. The servers moved
will be SQL 2005, Exchange 2003, Windows 2003 DC's, Active Directory, IIS 6.
Their IP addresses and subnet masks will be changed. We are getting a new
range of external IP addresses as well.

Are there documents available or any practical advise which people would
like to share if they have done this already? What kind of changed need to be
made to DNS if all these boxes will be moved?

TIA,

Abhi

Just change the TCP/IP config on the machines being moved. When the DNS
machines are moved,...all the static machines and the DHCP scopes will have
to adjust for the new DNS IP#s.

DNS registrations will take care of themselves but it won't happen
instantly. Do it in "off hours",...and don't move all the DNS machines at
the same time,...do them maybe a day apart from each other. Once the
registrations get caught up everything should be fine long as you access
resources on the LAN via the *names* and not the IP#s.

Intranet Web sites may need manual adjustment in DNS depending on how you
have done them to start with. If internal servers are "published" with a
firewall or proxy then you will have to deal with that manually.

Most of this is common sense, there is no magic, no voodoo, you just have
to think it all through, there really is no way I can give all the
suggestions to cover every possibility you might have because I don't know
your network like you do. Most of it you can do incrementally so any
disasters you create will be small.
