Hi people

I've configured smb.conf 'by hand' and i can see my xinXP pc and shares, but

What can i check>/modify/correct?

To just act as a client you need onlyt to set the hostname and the
network name in smb.conf, to act as a server you need to configure
things a little better and to start the daemon.

Without knowing what kind of error you get is hard to say.
Tryed to read/reread the Samba Howto? Tryed the web-based tool to
configure it?

Thats correct actually - just download winscp which
is GPL'd and point it at your GNU/Linux box
and then you have file access without samba.
http://winscp.sourceforge.net/eng/
(Remember to turn on ssh in the GNU/Linux box
before connecting with winscp.)
