Hi,

Imagine I have a big house (not really). I understand that the apple
airport will let you do a wireless daisy chain. That is, you have a
router in your study, then put one aiport in you living room, that
will grab the signal from the study and transmit to another in the
kitchen, that will grap the signal and transmit to the hammock in the
backyard where you're sitting with a laptop. I know airports will run
on PCs, but are there other devices that will do this wireless
daisy-chaining?

I've been looking at NetGear routers (WGR614), but am woried that the
signal strength may not be enough to get to my hammock. I've seen
booster antennas that you can replace on the wireless router, but I
haven't seen anything claiming it would re-transmit. Is there such a
thing, or should a bite the bullet and pony-up for an air port?

Thanks,
--Q.

This phenomenon is called a repeater. Most SOHO (small office
home office) boxes will function in the repeater mode.

However, I suggest getting one decent access point (cisco)
instead of two or three cheap access points.

Cisco AP 1200 on Ebay with 9dB omni antenna is about $450

I have a 35mW AP thats giving me 70% power levels at nearly 60 feet.
11Mb/s throughout my 8300 Sq Foot office.

The Cisco will do much better with that external Omni antenna.

Get a decent PC card too.... Netgear WAG511 is very good for
it's price $85
