info from samknows.com

An exchange local to me serves 745 residential and 85 business
customers, and has 1 DSLAM installed.

My exchange serves 8993 residential, and 184 businesses, having 2
DSLAM's.

2x 745 doesn't equal 8993 - do the former exchange users get better
speeds because of less 'occupancy'?

Hi,

DSLAM's come with a varying number of port and also the option to just
add more cards to increase the number of ports, your likely to have a
smaller model on the home exchange with less room for extra cards.

Do a search on ebay for them, you'll get some idea of whats available.

The samknows.com "serves" numbers don't relate to the number "broadband"
customers connected, they only relate to the number of properties connected
to that exchange in total. You should notice that the number doesn't change
much over time.

and very much in excess of any of the "trigger level" figures, had
one been "watching" for progress on specific exchange(s). Peter M
