(Guessing why you posted in this NG)

ADSL cannot be provisioned over a line fitted with a DACS,
although BT are supposed to endeavour to remove the DACS
provided that there are sufficient spare copper pairs.

In practice that means putting the DACS on one of your
neighbours lines who has not yet expressed an interest in ADSL.

Can't be used for ADSL and half the speeds of a dial up modem to around 28K

in practice it involves finding an extra pair, the "robbing Peter to
supply Paul" princiiple appears not to be standard practice.

Hi,

From experience generally they will try and remove the DACS and swap the 2
lines on to individual pairs. This isn't always possible as there might
not be a spare pair. In this case another line might get DACS'd, or they
may be able to add extra line plan to the area.

In general though there is a cost limit they have set for the installation
of an ADSL line, I forget the exact figure, something like £1500 but
please correct me if I'm wrong. If cost to add new line plan costs more
than this then they will likely either just move the DACS to another line
or not install ADSL at all.

With Regards,

Dave,

OFCOM gives them an obligation to reasonably attempt to do this.

By topic. DACS is the single biggest cause of queries to OFCOM about BT.
