DABS Value Conexant dies on config

I have a DABS-value conexant 4 port ADSL router.

It died when I was trying to configure its routing table to route my demon
IP address back inside the network (having also IP aliased by internal
webserver) in order to be able to connect using external names from the
local side of the router.

Anyway, it failed to reboot properly after a config save and now only
operates as a hub, the "ready" light goes out after a couple of seconds of
power up.

I've tried pressing the rest button with a pin for >20 seconds even, but no
joy.

I may have put it into "bridging mode" - theres two options that mention
bridging and the 8 page manual that comes with it doesn't really explain
much. The supplied setup program can't make contact with it and if I use it
as a USB device, winXP device manager reports problems and can't use it.

I'm after a replacement from DABS but is there anything I should know to
recover it first, and is it even possible to do what I was trying to do?

Sam

What happens if you try to ping its address, or FTP to it?

Have a look at http://www.mikehughes.net and read the threads about
reflashing from a DOS boot disk using a USB cable.

Although, like a lot of other routers, the Origo routers (adsltech
forum) use the conexant chipset, there are differences in the firmware
to the Dabs item (a PAE-CE84).
Brian Morrison's advice is a safer bet and also
http://www.adslguide.org.uk/qanda.as...LHardware#Q150 under
Conexant CA64E.

Nothing. I looked around to find out thats its original IP address would be
10.0.0.2 so I aliased by linux box to that subnet but no response

Thanks for your help everyone.
The box is going back to DABs and I'll get the netgear one.
From all the info you provided its obvious that a lot of people have this
problem and that DABs knew or ought to have know that what they sold was
susceptable to the problem. Sale-of-goods-act, money-back, get a netgear
router - cos at least (as was pointed out) they provide firmware updates.

Hmm, I tried to flash upgrade my PWR-CE74 and it died.

I tried the reset button, no joy - then I powered off, held down the reset
switch and powered up with a slow count to twenty before I released the
reset. The router then came up with the previous settings

I then asked it via the web-interface for a factory reset - all setting came
up in default.

Put the std UK settings in, added WEP keys and fiddled with DHCP and all has
been well since.
