Has anyone been able to install a D-Link DWL-650D to work
properly? I cannot -- The Conditions are:
Signal Strength: 86% Link Quality: 98%.
D-Link adapter not shown in IP Configuration (winipcfg)
Device manager shows the card as working properly.
SSID: ACTIONTEC - looks good
Card appears to be working but it seems to have a corrupt
TCP/IP stack in Windows98.

Does the Windows98 computer have several other network adapters? If
so, it might have reached the limit on TCP/IP bindings. This
Microsoft Knowledge Base article describes the limit and shows how to
increase it:

Unable to Bind Protocols to More Than 5 Network Adapters

Steve, Thanks for the suggestion. I am using 4 network
adapters, so this does appear to be the problem.

Problem Solved! The steps for installation included the
following
1. Do not have the DWL card installed.
2. Open System Properties/Device Manager and disable
all network adapters.
For my ThinkPad T22 laptop the adapters are:
a. Dial-Up Adapter
b. IBM ThinkPad Fast Infrared Port
c. Intel® PRO/SP Mobile Combo Adapter
3. Download and install dwl650m_driver_101.zip from D-
Link Website.
http://support.dlink.com/products/revision.asp.
4. Install drivers from D-Link Air Adapter Disk per
instructions.
5. Install DWL 650 Card per instructions.
6. Verify the card is correctly installed
using "winipcfg"
Click on Start - Run - Then type "winipcfg"
D-Link Air Wireless LAN Adapter should appear in the IP
Configuration.
The card is now installed correctly installed. Continue
the LAN installation.
