D-Link....When WPA?

Just read a news article on the dlink.com website concerning WPA:

http://presslink.dlink.com/pr/?prid=1

I sent the D-Link tech support team an e-mail asking when their Airplus
series (DI-614+ in my case) would have firmware upgrades supporting WPA.
Their reply said that they new nothing of this. Apparently their engineering
dept. hasn't communicated to the support team, or their sales & marketing
dept. hasn't communicated to the engineering dept.....or this news article
is bogus???

Has anyone had any other experiences with them on this?

Thanks,

-Middleman

In my recent AP purchase, I went Linksys because they weren't on board
with WPA yet. Wow...that press release sure is old, and we're way
past Q2!

D-Link, what gives?

This is a direct quote from that page:

"D-Link supports the WPA security standard in all of our major wireless
networking product lines, and it will be available in a free download to our
current users," said Steven Joe, President of D-Link. "WPA combines the
latest in security technology to ensure even more that wireless networks can
be intrusion-free." (remember, this was posted May 1, 2003)

Of course, he really didn't say WHEN, did he...? Perhaps it is time to move
to Linksys. Anyone wanna buy a DI-614+ real cheap? ;o)

UPDATE: I just received another email from D-Link:

"We are working as fast as we can but we Do Not have an Aprox time yet!
Just keep checking on our web site for updates!

Thank you for networking with D-Link.

Sincerely,
D-Link Technical Support Team"

Time will tell, I guess...

Check out the D-Link message area on broadbandreports.com. The
(esitmated) date has been pushed back several times, and speculation
is that they will never add WPA support for the .11b models to push
sales of the .11g models.

I too have the 614+. Time will tell.
