D-Link wireless card problems

I have been struggling to install a D-Link wireless
network on a cable connection, with very little help from
D-Link Tech support. I succeeded in hooking up their
DI624 wireless router to the cable and have connected my
WinXP Home desktop to it through an Ethernet connection,
giving me access to the internet. But I have had many
problems trying to connect a Win98SE notebook using their
DWL G650 wireless card. Although I can connect using an
Ethernet connection, I have been totally unable to connect
wirelessly. In addition, when I open D-Link's utility for
the card, it interferes with the operation of my mouse and
keyboard, and frequently locks the machine. D-Link says I
have a hardware problem, though it seems to me that it is
at least partly a software incompatibility between their
utility and drivers and Win98. I have checked the IRQ
settings and discovered that I have 6 devices on IRQ 9,
including the wireless card, my Ethernet card, and my dial-
up modem (I think). I tried disabling my Ethernet
connection and my dial-up modem, without resolving the
problem. Are IRQ conflicts a likely source of my
problems? If so what is the fix? What other issues do I
need to look at?

I have the DI-624 and the DWL-G650 wireless card in a WinXP laptop, no
problems. And I have a Win98se with a Zoom Telephonics wireless card
on the network with no problems. But, I had a problem recently when I
changed a Win98se laptop from a wireless to a wired PC card. I
couldn't get the wired set up to work until I had completely
un-installed the wireless software and then installed the wired
software. Maybe that is your problem, it sounds like you have two
cards installed in your Win98se notebook.

Regards, jimbo

If it were I with such a problem (and you have with almost 100% certainty
identified the nature of the problem), and I just 'had' to get that machine
working, I would remove all of the cards (removing each device in 'control
panel/ system' ie. modem, network card, sound card) and re-install each card
beginning with the network card.

Other cards would follow in the order of: modem, and lastly the sound card.
You are doing this because manufacturers of sound cards have long shipped
driver installation programs that tend to make overly optimistic assumptions
about devices that you may have that may be sharing the system with there
product.

If this didn't work, I'd contact the manufacturer and ask for shipping
Instructions.
