D-Link Wireless Adapter Problems

I installed a D-Link Air Plus Extreme G520 Wireless
adapter in my Win 98 SE machine. When attempting to
connect to the internet with IE 6, I got an invalid page
fault in Windows Explorer. No fix seems to work including:
clean boot, reinstalling Windows, updating BIOS and
drivers. I swapped the card out for a 520+, same issue.

Trying to use my Ethernet adapter gave me the same error
after unistalling the adapter and drivers. The only thing
that worked was to restore the registry using a backup
copy. But this doesn't make the 520+ work.

Any suggestions? The next step is a clean reinstall or
just giving in and getting XP.
