I am tryin to install a D-link DWL-G520 wireless network
adapter. I have windows 98. The manual says to install
the driver from the cd first, but whenever i try to
install it the message is "Do you want to completely
remove the installed components?"

It thinks you already have them installed.

thanks for the response.
How do i uninstall them?? I have "uninstalled" them a few
times already. I also deleted the d-link key in the
registry. I ran a search for d-link files and the driver
file and there are none.

What happens if you just answer "y?" Is that how you uninstalled
them in the first place?

if i say "OK" to uninstall it goes through uninstall
which takes about a second and goes back to the setup
screen for the d-link adapter. when i try to install the
drivers again, its does the same thing. I have even tried
to remove d-link fron the "add/remove programs" icon in
control panel, but it wont go away.

If you seem to have the software already installed (its asking you if you
want to remove it, so it must be there) just install your D-link!

after "uninstalling" (ahem..!) try re-booting your machine, then try
installing again?

only a thought...

There's probably a registry entry you missed. Unfortunately,
I don't know what it is. D-Link should be able to tell you.

Something like Norton Cleansweep might turn it up, although
that seems like a hard (and expensive?) way to find such a thing.

Personally, I think this highlights a design flaw in Windows --
the registry.
