Dir Sirs,

I'd like to buy 2xD-link 614+ or 2xNetgear MR814 and set up a
connection between 2 computers.
First has a adsl connection ,second regular lan,

Background

Distance between computers : No more then 1000 ft
(about 250m)
Absolute clear, full visuality.
Urban region block to block .First 100ft (30m) H Second 50
ft (15m)H

Questions:

1. How strong external antennas do i have to use for
this distance ?

2. In your opinion witch one is better and tell me the difference

I.Netgear

or
II..D-link

Best Regards,

Tomasz Sznapka

Witam Serdecznie

Mam zamiar kupic dwa routery albo D-link 614+ albo Netgear MR814 i
ustawic polaczenie pomiedzy dwoma komputerami.
Pierwszy to ADSL (neostrada) drugi typowy lan (siec osiedlowa).

Otoczenie

Odleglosc pomiedzy nimi ok 200-220 metrow w lini prostej ,pelna
widocznosc zadnych przeszkod terenowych drzew itp itd

Pierwszy budynek to wierzowiec 9 pietro drugi nowoczeny budynek 4 pietrowy.

Misja

Wymiana plikow.
Mozliwosc awaryjnego udostepnienia lacza neostrady dla drugiego komputera

Pytania:

1.Jak mocnych anten musze uzyc by osiagnac max przepustowosc lacza ?

2.Jak oceniacie te dwa produkty czyli

1.Netgear

LUB
2.D-linka

i ktory do w/w zadan bedzie najodpowiedniejszy..

Z powazaniem

In my experience with both of those Netgear is very good and D-Link is
crap.

Interesting article. I'm trying to figure out why a router would need to
keep track of the current time, though. Anyway, I just bought the MR814v2.
I suspect that it doesn't cause this problem but I'll have to look at it
again when I get home tomorrow night. My Netgear router isn't on-line right
now since I'm using a Linux software based router at the moment.

I wish I could afford a Cisco router.

I have used D-Link since they came out and have had great success. No
problems and I will certainly buy another.

Mine does the same thing. If I'm very close to the router, no problem. But
if there are a few walls in between, I can count on being dropped (just for
a few seconds) at least several times a day. Just long enough to kill my VPN
link. Tech support said exchange the router for another unit but it sounds
like most of these have this *VERY* annoying bug.

I'll probably return this for another brand.

Thats very interesting. I am still want to investigate some other things
in regard to heat (there is one heatsinked device on the board that gets
extremely hot) and also in regard to the powersupply (monitor voltage
etc). I really like the unit and would like to be able to depend on it
behaving itself.

The only problem I have with the whole situation is that there
apparently are "some" 614+ owners who do not have this problem at all
and I have never ever had any problem like this with the 900+ or 800+
APs.

My problem only seems to affect wireless users and it is so sporadic I
could easily understand it being overlooked on some installations or
being blamed on portable phones/interference etc.
