D-Link router support - better!

My DI-713P recently decided that the LAN ports should only run at 10M,
so it wouldn't negotiate with anything wanting to run 100M.

It worked OK, I just had to hard-configure all my machines at 10M Full
Duplex.

So anyway, thought I'd give D-Link support a call and see if there is
a "hidden" setting somewhere for this. (There isn't.)

The support guy seemed quite knowledgable and eager to help. WAY
different from the last time I tried to talk to D-Link support about a
year ago!

He advised me as a last-ditch effort to upgrade the firmware, which I
did.

However, I did had a problem (my error), so I called back and talked
to another guy. He was just as friendly and knowledgable as the first
guy. It was a little unnerving. :-)

I'm still not able to run 100M, but I do have the latest firmware and
everything else works.

FWIW
Mike

So are they sending you a new unit? Whay can't it run at 100m? It should.
No?
What was accomplished by these phone calls?

You don't understand what an improvement it is just to have someone
with a clue answering the phone at D-Link.

I haven't called back yet to determine if they'll send me a new unit,
and really I wouldn't expect them to do so since this one is almost 2
years old.

Configure a couple of machines for 100mb service, unplug everything else,
cold start the router by unplugging it, letting it sit and then power it up
again... One at a time, plug a machine into each and every LAN side port and
see what connect it gets. Then do the same with another machine and note
what connections it gets. Could be one machine is screwing up the lot, but
this shouldn't happen with a "10/100 switch"... Might want to leave the WAN
side unplugged during this, just to see if it might also be causing it...
Just a thought...

I'm impressed with their support, however, I was able to get a replacement
router from Netgear after 3 1/2 years when I thought for sure getting a
replacement would be hopeless.

Oh hell yes! Think of a computer as a tiny, super complex street
hooker. The more you put in.. Wait. No. That's not a good
analogy... Um... A computer is like a piece of paper. Er. No.
Um. I really have no idea how they work.
