D-Link GLB-502T ADSL Router problem in "Bridge mode"

hai all,

i am using the mentioned router & running into some trouble, even
D-Link's TSEs (technical Support Executives) are *DEAD* in front of my
problem. i talked with them for hours & still no solution.

it works fine on the LAN side, no issues here. D-Link TSEs told me that
Router does not work in the PPPoE mode by default, it uses Bridge-Mode
instead. since my ISP uses PPPoE so they said me to 1st configure it in
Bridge-Mode & then make a PPPoE dial-up connection to the internet,
then it will work. but it doesn't. i have configured it in Bridge-mode
with correct VPI/VCI values & when i try to make a dial-up with
"pppoeconf" it says "unable to detect a PPPoE access concentrator on
eth0". i tried an ADSL modem from my friend & it is working even now i
am using it to post my message but tomorrow he will take it back as
this is the only one modem he possesses. i have replaced D-Link Router
with new unit & problem is still there.

OOPS, i forgot to tell that i can "ping" GLB-502T successfully without
any problem.

Hi Buddy,

Even I am facing the similar type of problem. Since I do not have a LAN
card in my PC, I am using the USB connection. Still it doesn't work
in a PPPoE mode within the router. I have downloaded the PPPoE dialer
and it worked for me. To do this u need to set the router in a bridge
mode.

Reset all the previous settings in GLB-502T router and reboot it.
login to the router (http://192.168.1.1 username/pass = admin/admin) >
New Connection, select TYPE as Bridge and opposite to it, in the blank
space give some name to the connection (eg: Dataone), select LAN Lan
group1, and set VCI=35 and do apply,
then go to tools, click system commands, and select "save all",
press it and wait for the router to reboot.

That's all with the router side..
Now you need a pppoe dialer (download it from
http://www.calcuttatelephones.com/da...tall/menu.html ) for
windows 98/2000.
However if you are using XP, you need to select a new network
connection and select ppp, dsl one and that's all.

Still I am not very much comfortable with GLB-502T .. the USB link
disconnects quit frequently and I have to reboot the router. In
addition, the router gets heated quit soon.

Hey,,,

My problem with GLB-502T is resolved now... Actually the
problem is with the WAN MAC. According to D-Link tech-support, the WAN
MAC is same in all the GLB-502T routers and since recently the ISPs
have started caching the router's WAN MAC addresses, it becomes a
problem with GLB-502T series routers.
Solution: Contact D-Link Tech-support Mumbai - 022 26542264/66 and get
the MAC address changed (they actually edit the MAC in the hardware).
My problem is resolved now.. I am able to connect with PPPoE within the
GLB 502T router.

i dont think so. have you checked your router by using it for more than
2 hours, continuously

did that 4 days ago but no PPPoE remains after some time. yes, D-Link
folks also made a contact to me (only when i sent an email saying that
their TSEs are technically incompetent) & i did change WAN MAC address
but then it disconnects after 5,20, 40 or so minutes.

NO, as i said put your router ON, CONNECTED for nearly 2 hours & if its
connection does not die, which will not happen, then its working, my
unit does not.

Hi,

Link disconnecting after 10-20 minuts - well yes, that was the problem
before I took my device to the D-Link techsupport office. Now it
dosen't disconnect - I leave it on for whole day or hours together.
Touchwood !!! no issues..

my unit still does not give a "continuous connection", yes even after
techsupport changes its WAN MAC address & i amnot the only one, 2 more
in my area. i threw D-Link away in fron of my dealer, he gave me the
NetGear DG632 whichis running wothout any problems. i will never buy
D-Link's products from now on.
