I've been trying to configure a D-Link DWL-G650. No matter what laptop I put
it in, Windows XP (Pro and Home both) start carping about needing to install
the "Ethernet Controller" device.

Nothing on the DWL-G650 installation CD seems to satisfy the request,
nothing on the Windows XP installation CD seems to satisfy the request (it's
one of those generic device items with the little gray chip image, so I
thought maybe Windows had it), and nothing I've found online seems to
satisfy it.

I wrote to D-Link and they vomited up some chunk of the FAQ that would only
make sense if the device was working already - they didn't even read my
question, far as I can tell.

Anyone know what "Ethernet Controller" is supposed to mean (it doesn't seem
to be associated with any particular card, although it may have something to
do with the USB/Ethernet mechanism that this card seems to be using), and
where I'm supposed to find a driver for it?
