i've got a D-Link DSL300 braodband modem for a few years now. Never had
any problems, plug it into the ethernet, open a browser, 192.168.0.1,
username - password -> connect = finish

since some time i have troubles accessing the modem over the browser on
my red hat fedora. often i can't see the D-Link page at all, sometimes
i can log in, connect, i get the connected status, but i am not online.
can't browse the net or ping addresses.

I can use the modem on my apple OSX, but not on windows XP. on my
apple, i can only connect to the internet using the build in access,
but not over it's ip address.

I've bought a new modem a D-Link DSL504T ADSL Router, and I can't
access the internet with this modem at all. on windows i can't log on
to the modem, and on linux i can log in, but only get an emty webpage
afterwards, rather than the set up (username, connect, etc...)

does this sound familiar to anyone.

if you haven't guessed yet, i am a newbe on linux...

thanks, dimitri

Not all web sites respond to pings. "www.debian.org" (192.25.206.10) is
one that does.

For browsing to work, routing and DNS both have to work. Check your
routing first (by pinging the IP address above from your modem).

Check your cables! Try resetting it.
